Of course step #2 might not be that easy, but then again all races have clipping issues so it’s not something you’ll avoid entirely no matter what. Charr and Asura just have it a bit worse than the more humanoid races.

PvE or PvP? For PvE I dunno, didn’t do much of it with thief but in PvP from my experience you’re best off focusing the squishiest, least mobile enemy and taking them out.

Sounds straight forward but you have the ability to pick a target, burst them down really low or down them and get out easily ,whereas most other classes have to commit to a fight to do that and they generally can’t escape as easily as a thief.

How similar is this game to Runescape? I know it’s night and day on top, but how about the core? Is the community fun? Is there a deep economy where you can merchant items? How are quests? How is the non pvp gameplay?

I’m curious in the game, but every video I watch is pvp, which is fun, but doesn’t last for me. I put years in both UO and Runescape but have never played a "modern" day MMO such as WoW.

Quests aren’t as interesting as Runescape, more like short experiences but I think anyone with MMO experience can get into GW2 with a bit of learning.

Combat and customization is obviously more in depth (even with the RS combat patch).

Community is what you make of it, join a good guild and your set. As for merchanting, sure with the server-wide auction house.

I just wanted to tell whether a dye was metallic, leather or vibrant without consuming the dye first. This way if I found metallic dyes on my elementalist I could give them to my warrior.

Oh well, I’m sure it will all be on the wiki… but it would have been nice to check the difference in-game.

There’s some hats that look okay on Charr, like cowboy and pirate hats, the bandannas worn as masks don’t look bad in a clipping sense anyway, but this is the one medium armor helmet that covers the entire head that I actually liked.

1. Orr is the level 80 area and apparently has a special way of doing dynamic events where the whole area is one huge event chain. It’s supposedly a neverending war with the forces of the dragons, undead, etc. and is focused on defending the temples of the gods in Orr. I think it’s also linked to the final explorable dungeon, Arah.

2. You level up as normal. While your effective level will stay 10, your real level will immediately go from 24 to 25 and you’ll get a trait point to spend right away.

Dynamic events are shit that happens all the time, everywhere, in every level range. They’re like super quests on steroids. It’s really, really fucking hard to adequately explain how they work when you only have WoW as a point of reference, suffice to say that they’re an infinitely better designed system than the tired old "get quest from npc, look 10 boar hides, turn in quest at npc" schlock.

So, what’re fellow engineer’s thoughts on the class? I’m slightly irked about being shoehorned into a condition-damage class, but I don’t mind given how profoundly you can burn stuff. Flamethrower offers enough on-crit chances that you can generally stack conditions like crazy. I can’t really determine what I want my other 2 utilities to be – Elixir B is generally pretty strong, particularly the swiftness and fury. I’ve been using Rocket Turret because it applies burning (thus using my condition damage), while also providing some pretty awesome knockdown. And if it’s on cooldown, you get a mini-nuke to use while you wait (toolbelt skill). If this were PvP, I’d obviously say one skill should be rocket boots, given how it fucks up any dipshit warrior / thief’s efforts to gib you. Anywho! Utility usefulness, if I may ask?

I could justify getting the haste buff on, say, the Warrior, where the rifle has 8s bleeds (which are substantially longer with traits), so you could stack up bleeds and run after the haste buff is gone. I might consider it for the Engineer, but between the cooldown and unpredictable drawback (brief, but hard to plan for), I wasn’t fond of it. I heard good things about it though, and might give it a shot – what exactly did the throw part of it do? I saw walls come up but I didn’t really use it enough to get a good concept of what was happening.

Also, healing turret is kind of god tier now that it also got a toolbelt skill (vents healing mist or somesuch). Really hard to compete with it, aside from the medkit toolbelt for getting around for the swiftness.

Since the Greastword nerf they seem to have lost any effectiveness with power/crit builds. You can stack condition damage really fast though. Splitblade with the right sigil, bleed on crit traight, and Sharpened Edges can apply 20 stacks of bleed in one attack at point blank (if they all crit and you get lucky). Feline pets also do critical hits and bleeds up the wazoo.

This seems to be the most popular (and arguably most powerful) build at the moment.

I’ll probably use it once I hit 100% crit rate (between the precision / condition damage build, and fury from Elixir B), so I can seriously stack in those critical hits with the flamethrower in a short span of time. Vulnerability, bleed, and burning chances on crit – that shit seriously adds up! And this was at level 30 in the Ascalonian Catacombs. I might just drop elixir B altogether (I like the rocket turret), given it’s toolbelt skill is kinda shitty at the moment (unless you get swiftness, at which case – in it’s current incarnation – you get 30s of swiftness).

This is what I use. I think there are some variations. Second weaponset doesn’t have to be sword/dagger, but I like it for the poisons and cripples for 1v1 situations when my major axe/warhorn skills are on cooldown, as well as when I need to be defensive because it has a lot of evades. Shortbow and greatsword should work too, I think.

Sigils and Runes are kind of personal preference.

Animal spirits affect nothing we’ve seen so far, it’s the generic thing that every race gets (human worshiping a certain god does nothing).

Personality types (agressive, noble, charming) affect flavor text to stories from what I’ve seen. Have not seen a variation with voice acting.

I doubt wearing a monocle will affect story either, see elementalist choosing fire as their favorite for the intro and just getting a headband that’s fire themed.

There’s basically two choices that affect story for each race.

As a Charr, the ending to my second chapter was fairly ambiguous.

I picked Honourless Gladium as my sire, and let him live. He escapes through the portal to Lion’s Arch and tells me he’ll keep in touch, since it’s hinted there was more to the story to discover. I hope instead that the third chapter is based on the decision you made in the second chapter, assuming all races have a two-way decision point at some time in their second chapter. I only played Charr stories up to 20.

PvE.

Going to roll a fun character to level cap, saving all my crafting mats. Then I’ll roll my main who will be grinding out everything possible. This way I’ll have enough money to do whatever with him and never have to worry about gear or mats while leveling. As an added bonus, loadsabags on him.

After I get him to 80? Dungeon grind and collect material nodes in WvW, seems like an awesome place to go for them. I’ve barely seen anybody off the beaten track in WvW, most are at forts or where shit is marked on the big map. I’ll be around the edges of all that.

Rytlock informs you that your father left a treasure that his warband found but could not split up, and the keys to the treasure were hidden in different locations. You find the 2 parts of the key and then search for the treasure, which is pic related. Also the story has Braugit, one of the most memorable side characters in any of the stories I’ve done so far

The only good GB server that we considered is almost full already (so it would be a guaranteed chance to land in the overflow come release).

Besides EUbros seem to forget that EU is not just one fucking country and of course they will be people from different countries on each server and I think that we can all agree that the fact that each country has like 2 bro-countries and 10 "sworn enemies" is not helping.

I think it will be fun as long as it’s a healthy mix without any overwhelming majorities ruling over our server (this is why I think Anet should designate some RU servers, there is far too many of them to "dilute" it to bearable levels).

Besides, GB doesn’t like to be bunched up with Europe and is far from being a pristine English paradise nowadays. This is my take on this, but what do I know I’m just a slav.

Can someone tell me a bit about the equipment situation in this game, especially "endgame"?

I’ve checked the wiki but didn’t find anything precise.

Basically, the way I understand it it’s not like WoW where each weapon might be more or less unique in terms of its stats and special on hit effects etc. blah, but the difference is rather just in its looks correct? I remember reading that you could just go and buy good weapons from NPCs in the town, you wouldn’t even have to go pve or pvp for it

I sure hope there’s another stress test before release so they can fix this problem. Was anyone else getting disappearing shit constantly? This one area I ended up though was completely unplayable, no matter where I looked it was all invisible. Usually it was just a matter of running up a mountain and seeing through it for a second, but in this one spot it was totally invisible no matter what.

No. Rarity affects stats. Exotics are superior to Rares and Legendaries are probably superior to Exotics.

However, there is no "item level" within rarity tiers, assuming max level. Also, items obviously have different stat distribution for different builds, and then there are sigils too that add certain on-hit effects and such.

If you had to make 1 human character, which character creation details would you pick that were the least boring?

I’ve done part of the noble storyline and streets storyline and all of the commner storyline and they were all pretty bad but which was the least terrible?

I’ve done the whole unknown parents storyline and it was forgettable, which personal conflict was somewhat interesting?

I think the street rat storyline was the better one, but they’re all shit.

Didn’t care for any of the personal conflicts. Parents and sister are both on the same level to me, and circus is just ridiculous. Really, who came up with that?

I’d probably go street rat and flip a coin on the parents/sister thing if I made a human.

I got a feel at the end of the parent storyline, but that was mostly due to my personality trait choice and the "idontgiveafuck" he did when reading the grave.

Circus from what I’ve heard is just random fun shit save the Queen from these evil folk.

I’ll be choosing the sister storyline, it sounds like it could be neat afterwards although I never tried it. Spoilers ahead don’t read if you haven’t done it. Your sister is actually alive and a member of the Seraph. Maybe you’ll get to team up with her later in the story or have her chilling in your personal instance.

I thought the street rat one made slightly more sense. There’s no real reason for a noble or a comfortable tavern worker to be out adventuring, but a street rat getting away from the local gang life kind-of made more sense to me.

Also, I let Quinn die. Fuck him.

Greatsword Guardian is all offensive. You have limited support with that weapon (skill 2 gives you and allies around you retalliation)

Hammer has a LITTLE bit more support but is still very offensive.

Sword/Torch is pretty offensive as well.

There is a parameter you can add to the shortcut to have the launcher go through the files and download only broken ones. I think it’s -repair. Might save you redownloading it all.
